Dr. Courtney Preston is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. She joined the faculty in 2014. Dr. Preston holds a Ph.D. in Leadership and Policy Studies from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
Dr. Preston studies school improvement, focusing on teacher and school leadership preparation and development. Recently, her research has investigated how the structural features of university-based teacher preparation programs contribute to student achievement gains. In addition, she has collaborated on projects examining differences between high- and low-performing urban high schools in order to scale up effective practices across schools and helping principals support teachers in working groups designed to support collaborative lesson planning, peer observation, and peer feedback.
Dr. Preston teaches courses on school improvement and effective instruction for school leaders. Her work has recently appeared in Teachers College Record and Economics of Education Review.
