Interests

My research interests are focused on how nutrition, especially mineral intake, affects cardiovascular health. Minerals and other dietary factors can begin to affect the cardiovascular system long before the onset of overt cardiovascular disease. This includes changes in blood pressure as well as changes in the health of the vasculature, particularly endothelial function. The work conducted in my laboratory aims to 1) identify and characterize the links between mineral intake and cardiovascular health, 2) understand the physiological mechanisms underlying these effects, and 3) develop and implement effective dietary interventions to improve cardiovascular risk factors.
