Remembering Lou Brown
Dr. Lou Brown (special education and vocational rehabilitation Ph.D. ’69) passed away earlier this month. Brown had a tremendous impact on special education, transforming not just the field, but countless lives during his storied career.

Tiyana Herring, M.S./Ed.S. student in the School Psychology, was named to the International Literacy Association's 30 Under 30 list. The annual list recognizes innovators, disruptors and visionaries in the field of literacy. The full list can be found here.

Angela "AJ" Grube was named the new dean of the College of Business at Western Carolina University. Previously, Grube served a number of roles inside the College, including acting dean and interim associate dean, as well as professor of sport management.

It is an easy assumption to make that graduates from a college of education go on to be educators. However, our alumni from the Florida State College of Education enter the workforce in a variety of ways, equipped with the skills and passion gained during their time here.
How Florida State Supports the Pipeline of Special Educators
Three newly funded multimillion-dollar projects in the Florida State University College of Education will be directly addressing the shortage of qualified special education teachers faced by many school districts. With funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs, each of these five-year training grants will train future teachers and university faculty to improve educational outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
Making a Difference with Darasa: Helping Refugee Students
Turbulent events around the world have caused an increase in the number of refugees seeking safer places to live. Uprooting and moving a family is stressful, but leaving behind your country can cause even more trauma. Children in particular can have a hard time adjusting to a new home. Combined with economic stressors and being surrounded by a new culture, these factors contribute to poor educational outcomes and limit chances for success.
