Cara is a doctoral student in the Combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology program at Florida State University. She received her bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Illinois in Chicago. Cara’s work at a Chicago area mental health center serving youth in crisis led her to pursue suicide prevention research and initiatives.  Prior to entering the program, Cara was part of a research group at the University of Wisconsin investigating the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based curriculum for teachers and students in public schools.  Cara’s research and clinical interests include suicide prevention, maladaptive cognitions, resiliency, post-traumatic growth, and gratitude.
